59 PM MountainGeneral Purpose The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for a full-time Parks Maintenance Operator I position.
This position performs a variety of entry level, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance tasks essential to the upkeep of City parks, City grounds, and playing fields.
This position must be available nights, weekends, and on-call.
Essential Functions May perform one or several of the essential functions below depending upon assignment:
Prepares ball playing fields for public use by harrowing, spraying, dragging, and lining of playing area; assists with snow removal and winterizing of all parks buildings, grounds and facilities; operates Zamboni to groom and resurface ice rink.
Maintains attractive fields by insuring playing areas are watered and trimmed; maintains and cleans building and restrooms.
Maintains field barriers and fences; repairs and patches wood fences utilizing basic hand tools (hammer, saw, etc.
); monitors use of clubhouse to ensure abuses of property do not occur.
Participates in the construction, installation and maintenance of park signage; paints signs as needed.
Constructs, installs and maintains park irrigation systems; operates and maintains electronic computer based valves, timers and operating systems; supervises subordinate employees in the same.
Assists to enforce city weed ordinances; applies pesticides and other chemicals to parks and City grounds for weed and pest control.
Mows and trims underdeveloped ground such as right-of-ways, canal banks, vacant lots, etc.
Performs a variety of spring cleaning and maintenance duties at ball fields, and other City park, City grounds and recreation locations; gathers and disposes of litter and garbage.
Operates light and heavy equipment (mower, tractor, ice resurfacer, backhoe, front-end loader, bucket, etc.
) as needed to accomplish work assignments; grooms and mows turf; performs routine, minor maintenance, checking oil and fluids, air pressure, gauges, etc.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications 1.
Education and
Experience:
A.
Sufficient education or training to demonstrate an aptitude to perform above and related duties; AND B.
One (1) year experience performing the above or directly related duties; OR C.
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of parks, grounds, and facilities maintenance and operations; working knowledge of electronic computer controlled irrigation systems installation and maintenance; working knowledge of pesticide application equipment and safety precautions; some knowledge of interpersonal communication skills; some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of safety precautions common to physical labor associated with above duties.
Some skill in the use of basic hand tools, light and heavy equipment.
Ability to follow routine verbal or written work instructions and assignments; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and Supervisors and the public.

Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license.
Final candidate will be subject to a thorough background check.
Work Environment Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc.
Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job.
Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions.
Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists.
Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking.
Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
