Driveshaft Mechanic

Position Summary
Repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers according to company standards and procedures.
Essential Tasks
1. Record incoming measurements of Driveline to be repaired or assembled.
2. Provide a comprehensive list of parts and services required to repair or assemble a new Driveline according to the Manufacturer's Specifications.
3. Record final measurements, services and parts used during the last stage of a job, noting any special customer request(s).
4. Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.
5. Weld, straighten and balance Drivelines and drive shafts according to vendor specifications.
6. Read blueprints, when furnished by the customer, regarding the special fabrication and assembly of a driveshaft.
7. Utilize machinery in order to repair or fabricate any driveshaft. 8. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Requirements
Physical Demands
Ability to frequently lift or carry parts in excess of 100 lbs. Ability to assume positions on and under vehicles while performing repairs.
Environmental / Physical Conditions
Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, noise and temperature variances.
Equipment
- OSHA approved steel toed safety shoes required from the first day of this job.
OSHA approved protective eyewear.
Welding equipment (both MIG and stick electrode); Oxygen/Acetylene cutting and welding outfit; Drill press; Hydraulic press; Band hack saw; Floor grinder; Common air and electric power hand tools (Company and personally provided) (1/2 air wrench required); Basic welding tools including wrenches. Mechanic must furnish all hand tools up to and including 3/4.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
Post Secondary Certificate or training in mechanics preferred
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in general heavy-duty truck and/or trailer repair. Specifically, at least 3 years of experience in repairing driveshafts.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid drivers' license with clean driving record. Class A driver's license preferred.
