Procurement Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate with Design Engineering to develop acceptance requirements for parts and electronics components and assemblies.
Analyze technical data, design, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations, supplier facilities, and availability of parts and equipment.
Author formal equivalency reports to allow substitution of obtainable components for hard to find or obsolete electronic components.
Perform initial investigation of potential suppliers and recommend those most desirable.
Interview and follow-up with supplier representatives regarding specifications, and other questions relating to parts and equipment.
Monitor, evaluate and disposition Supplier Nonconformance Reports.
Serve as a subject matter and technical expert for audits and evaluation of new vendors.
Evaluate the data of current vendors to determine if error rates and overall quality are acceptable.
Coordinate, manage and track step procurements
Arrange and participate in conferences between suppliers and engineers, purchasers, inspectors, and other company personnel to facilitate material inspection, substitution, standardization, rework, salvage, utilization, and economical procurement of parts and equipment.
Author documents such as Engineering Data Briefs, Design Change Notices and Inspection Plans.
Evaluate customer Requests for Quotes (RFQ) and assist with proposal generation when requested.
Reduce procurement costs and lead time.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (e.g., manufacturing, mechanical or electrical engineer) and three to four years of related experience.
Must have knowledge of electronics in particular with circuit boards
Strong communication skills necessary to facilitate coordination both with subsuppliers and with multiple internal departments.
Experience with strict quality programs is ISO 9000 or six sigma black belt
Experience with nuclear regulatory compliance, preferably 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and Part 21 as implemented through NQA-1is preferred
Willingness to travel in support of supplier evaluations in support of QA audits
2D drafting software (AutoCAD) experience required
3D modeling sofware (SolidWorks or Inventor) experience preferred
Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal cutting, forming and coating. Also need to be familiar with machining, welding and hardware installation.
Experience with metal fabrication shop is preferred
