Supervisory Nuclear Engineer

As a Supervisory Nuclear Engineer you will:
Provides expert advice and assistance to DOE management, staff and contractors in solving the most complex, department-wide theoretical, technical and managerial problems in the area of nuclear safety, including policy setting; strategic planning; interpretation of regulations, codes and standards; administration of programs and projects; establishing research objectives; design of experiments; development of prototypes; and, evaluation of safety systems. These activities require interaction and coordination with technical and supervisory representatives from across the DOE complex including DOE contractors, other federal agencies, oversight boards (e.g., DNFSB), state and local governments, and private industry. . The NSS is responsible for supervisory duties and leading a team of technical staff to ensure the adequacy and maintenance of the NE nuclear facility safety bases, including, Documented Safety Analyses, Technical Safety Requirements, Safety Evaluation Reports, and Unreviewed Safety Questions prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, Nuclear Safety Rule, and referenced guides and standards. Coordinates the safety basis review and approval process. Assists in contractor oversight of safety bases implementation. Directs, guides, coordinates, and oversees work; plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work; Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees; Exercises significant responsibilities in dealing with officials of other units or organizations, or in advising management officials of higher rank; including additional supervisory duties. Evaluates contractor programs and operational performance in the area of nuclear safety. Provides evaluation input to DOE-HQ and DOE-ID management. Participates as a team leader and/or a team member in the conduct of functional area and multi-discipline management system appraisals of DOE offices and contractor programs. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Leading, conducting, and documenting evaluations of nuclear safety or radiological control programs at nuclear facilities to ensure compliance with established requirements. 2 .Managing or leading teams in inspections, evaluations and assessments of a radiological control programs at a nuclear facilities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Evaluating nuclear facility operations to identify any design, construction or operation practices that may violate safety regulations and laws. Preparing briefings or reports on the findings of nuclear facilities investigation(s) for management decision. Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices in the fields of nuclear operations and nuclear safety, including those related to hazards and accident analysis, radiation physics, radiation measurement, and protective materials and technologies for prevention, containment, dispersion, or reduction of radiation hazards. KSA 2:
Skill in serving as a recognized technical expert in resolving controversial or novel problems of unusual size and complexity involving projects such as planning and directing scientific and engineering radiological safety evaluations KSA 3:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance. Ability to plan, distribute, coordinate, and monitor work assignments of others. KSA 4:
Ability to apply fiscal and administrative policies, procedures, and practices sufficient to participate in the technical management of the nuclear safety investigation effort. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:
